Some widgets have options that are only available when you get a premium membership.
We've split the page into zones!
Certain widgets can only be added to certain zones.
"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.
Don't forget, restraints can bring out the creativity in you!
Now go forth and astound us all with your devious profiles!
Katie!!! How is your summer going? I haven't checked my deviant in a while, so I'm sorry it has taken me so long to reply. I'm in California right now, so I can't give you the Southwinds right now. I'll be back in August so I can get it to you then if you want. Hope you are having a good summer!!!
Man.. it's nice to know somebody else who understands exactly how insane it was to cover something 8 feet long and 5 feet tall in the course of one month while still attempting to keep up with all other classes. I had to make an AP portfolio at the same time, and never was more busy in my life. But it was very well worth it, biggest project i've ever done. Hahah i feel like a real artist now.
Anyways, I'm glad we both... finished it upon the deadline. I look forward to seeing your design on the website gallery when the 07 finalists get put up.
Hmm I'm sure if you do some nice searching, you could find some news articles about other cow finalists scattered across the nation. Here i'll link you to some.. becuase you just gave me the idea to go search for some
this one has the three washingtonians, including me who were finalists - [link]

I sooooooo agree with you. I have never been so happy to sleep in on the weekend. I decided to put my AP potfolio off for next year because of it. Now that it is over though, it feels so weird because the cow was my entire life for a month--what do I do with my life now?! You are doing the Sisitine Chapel right? It looks like the girl at Cupertino is also doing the Sistine Chapel. After my friend stumbled on your site, I started to look up other finalists and found 14 of them so far. Here's a few... The last website is mine. I can't wait to see all of the finished cows as well. I don't know about you, but I'm nervous about the judging. Hopefully it will work out well for both of us. Congratulations...again!
-Tommy
thanks for the links. Congratulations for you too.
Your design is really relaxing to look at, so simple, and pretty sweet. You used colored pencil for a bit of it right? I completely went crazy with acrylics. Man I don't think I'm ever going to touch a paint brush again.
I actuallyl didn't put off my AP portfolio because I wasn't exactly enrolled in the AP art class, i was just making a portfolio to send in which is almost entirely comprised of artwork I did prior to this year. I decided to put the two sides of my cow as breadth pieces.
I was really surprised when I found out that the other person at Cupertino is also doing the Sistine Chapel... I thought I was the only one. What a coincidence, but atleast our designs look completely different.
I don't have my pictures posted at the moment... haha.. it'll be a surprise.
I can't wait unitl Mid april to see the whole gallery of 07.

I honestly can't paint too well, so instead of taking a crash course in painting I did the entire cow with colored pencil. It took me forever and my hand hurt so much after every day I worked on it. My hand is definitely enjoying the break. My teacher tried to convince me to submit the portfolio this year, but I wanted to have more recent pieces and I lost a month of work because of the cow. I will say though that working on the cow was fun... who knows if any of us will ever be able to do something like this again! I'm also surprised the judges picked two Sistine Chapel pieces, but they did have three Chicago fires last year. How do you know that they will post the gallery in mid April? The results will also be posted the week of April 19th, right? I feel like I'm the last to know when things are going to happen. I just found out Friday that my cow is going on display at Dominick's on Monday. My art teacher isn't always the first to tell everybody when things are going to happen. Arrrgh! Till next time...

Ah, sorry it's been a week before i got to reply this.
Goodness.. i have to finish seven Concentration pieces... by the coming monday. SO basically I'm doing one piece a day, I put it off so long... but it's all digital so it won't be that time-consuming.
Yeah... I'd have to say my first color medium was Prisma color pencil, I got hooked on them four years ago, and they still would be my preferred medium. However last year I took two painting classes at school, and did some water color and some big painting project over the summer, and the medium has become so much easier. So the only advice is to practice. You already have a natural talent in drawing, an eye for art and all that technical stuff, which is basically the foundation for all mediums of art, including painting. The largest pro to painting is that you can cover large surfaces very easily, colored pencil is very detail-oriented but the downfall is that it takes so much time. After viewing your site, I really admire how you got yourself to spend like.. 100+ hours on your cow... through colored pencil, it's a nice change, as all the entries last year were painted / spray painting. I only spent about fifty, with a little help of course from other students.
I think the judges purposely picked multiples of the same historical event..even though it was out of a pile of 9000 entries, as a way to compare the methods that each artist portrayed the event.. i dunno.
I'm not even sure when they are posting the winning gallery, but I would think, it would be soon. My school actually got a call on the 16th about the cow, but it was a very short and vague call, and the office lady couldn't get the caller to say anything substantial. However she did say that she'd call back in an hour, but the call never came.
Anyways.. some safeway truck came yesterday and picked up our cow to put it on display in one of the stores.. for a month.
Have you gotten any calls yet?
anyways... whatever the results are, I'm sure this was a great, monumental/milestone artsy experience for us both. I know for me, it was the largest and most ambitious project I've ever gotten the priviledge to complete. And hopefully we'll both continue to pursue art in the years to come
